Easy Fundraising for Teams

Overview

Fundraising is an important part of any team or organization’s success. Whether you are raising money for a school club, sports team, or nonprofit organization, reaching your fundraising goals can be a challenging task. In my 10 years of playing volleyball, I have been a part of many fundraisers. In all the efforts to provide funds for my teams’, online digital fundraising has proven to be the most effective. However, with the right team fundraising ideas and strategies, you can achieve your fundraising goals and make a positive impact in your community. You are probably asking yourself, how do you fundraise for a sports team? In this article, we will share 10 great team fundraising ideas to help you reach your sports team goals.

1. Sports Tournament

If you are part of a sports team, hosting a tournament can be a great way to raise funds while also promoting your sport. You can charge a registration fee for teams and offer prizes for the winning team. Make sure to promote your tournament in advance and arrange for referees and equipment.

2. Bake Sale or Partner with a Local Restaurant

A bake sale is another classic fundraising idea that can be successful with the right planning. You can sell homemade baked goods such as cookies, cupcakes, and brownies. Make sure to have a variety of options and consider offering gluten-free or vegan options.

In addition, many restaurants offer fundraising nights where a portion of the proceeds goes to a designated organization or team. You can reach out to local restaurants and arrange a fundraising night where supporters can dine and donate to your cause. You can partner with local businesses such as Krispy Kreme or Chipotle to help you fundraise for your team.

Krispy Kreme allows you to sell doughnuts virtually through their virtual fundraising program or In-Shop local distribution. Similarly, Chipotle works with your team to run in-restaurant and online fundraisers. For more restaurant fundraising ideas check out this great blog post!

3. Crowdfunding / Digital Fundraising

Crowdfunding, or online digital fundraising, is a great way to raise funds for your team or organization. Digital fundraising is the most profitable form of fundraising that takes the least amount of time. Digital fundraising websites allow you to create a fundraising campaign and share it with your friends and family via email, text, and social media followers. You can set a fundraising goal and offer incentives for people who donate to your campaign.

Since 2010 eTeamSponsor’s digital fundraising platform has helped schools raise over $200 Million for their sports teams and activities. eTeamSponsor is the best fundraising platform for sports teams. The personalized campaigns are easy to set up (30 minutes or less) and typically raise 2-4X more than other fundraising options.

With an eTeamSponsor digital fundraiser schools and teams typically see 90% or more of their donations coming from outside the local zip code, which works great when combined with other local fundraising ideas.

4. Run a Car Wash

Running a great car wash fundraiser is an easy and effective way to raise funds for your high school or college sports team. You can advertise your car wash in advance and charge a set fee for each car wash to gain support. Make sure to have plenty of soap, sponges, and water on hand.  If you are looking for a car wash kit for both interior and exterior work we recommend Armor All’s 8 Piece Kit ($43.97 on Amazon) giving the cars you wash the extra level of cleaning protection.

Set up in a high-traffic corner of a busy street to attract the most amount of passerby interest. A team car wash fundraiser can build unity and local school support if it is conducted near the school or on the premises of the school’s parking lot.

5. Host a Raffle

Raffles are classic great fundraising ideas that can be effective at raising money when executed properly. You can sell raffle tickets and offer prizes such as gift cards, electronics, or experiences. This could be a great idea to execute during the halftime of a basketball game or football game. Make sure to check your local laws and regulations regarding raffles before launching your fundraiser.

6. Hold a Yard Sale

A yard sale can be a great way to get rid of unwanted items while also raising funds. You can ask team members to donate items such as clothes, furniture, and electronics. Make sure to advertise your yard sale in advance and price items fairly. Here is our recommendation for yard sale signs that can help direct people to your sale: Amazon Double Sided Yard Sale Signs.

7. Host a Trivia Night

Hosting a trivia night can be a fun way to raise funds and bring your team or organization together. You can charge a fee for attendees and offer prizes for the winning team. Make sure to choose a fun and engaging host and prepare a variety of trivia questions. This host can be the athletic director of a school or a well-known coach to read off the questions and answers.

8. Charity Walk

Hosting a charity walk or run can be a great way to raise funds while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. You can charge a registration fee for participants and ask for donations from friends and family. Make sure to choose a fun and scenic route and offer water and snacks along the way.

9. Auction

Hosting an auction can be a great way to raise funds while also offering attendees a fun experience. You can ask local businesses to donate items for the auction and set up a live auction or online auction. Make sure to promote your auction in advance and encourage attendees to bid on items. Hosting an online auction is a great method to reach a larger audience. You can use platforms such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace to sell donated items and promote your auction through social media and email. A silent auction can be a great way to raise funds while also offering attendees a fun experience by setting up bidding sheets around the items being auctioned off.

10. Personalized Merchandise Sales

Selling merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, and other baseball-themed items can be a profitable fundraising idea for your team. Design your merchandise with your team logo and colors, and sell them at games, tournaments, and online. Consider partnering with a local print shop or consider using online to produce high-quality items that your supporters will love. Two of our favorites are 4imprint and Custom Ink, both have custom and easy-to-use design tools.
